The Pirates have added right-handers Mitch Keller and J.T. Brubaker, shortstop Cole Tucker and outfielder Jason Martin to their 40-man roster. The move protects the players from the upcoming Rule 5 draft.
Pirates' Rule 5 moves are in. Mitch Keller, Cole Tucker, Jason Martin and J.T. Brubaker get spots. Pirates clear one spot by trading Tanner Anderson to Oakland for a PTBNL or cash.— Bill Brink (@BrinkPG) November 21, 2018
Keller, of course, is the Pirates’ top prospect. Tucker typically ranks somewhere among their top five, depending on your source.
The more uncertain additions were Brubaker and Martin. Brubaker made significant progress this year after adding a cutter. He throws in the upper-90s and also relies on a change. Martin, who came in an obscure trade with Houston, had a big half-season for Altoona before struggling with Indianapolis.
The 40-man roster is now full.
