Pirates Prospects has posted an interview with Gerrit Cole on the subject of David Freese’s comments regarding the Pirates’ lack of a winning culture. It’s behind the paywall, but from the title it’s obvious that Cole agrees with Freese’s comments. He also points the finger at management more squarely than Freese did. The one thing I find the most striking is that Cole says the players discussed the fact that they didn’t hear the word “win” a lot. That echoes Freese’s expressed distaste for the word “competitive.” I can’t help wondering whether Neal Huntington’s frequent references to “competing” irritate the players as much as they do me.
