Pitchers and catchers are now five days away. There’s still a good chance of a deluge of transactions all over baseball once the free agent market starts to shake loose, so things could still change. For now, though, the Pirates have, by rough approximation, 22 candidates for seven (assuming Clint Hurdle can settle for so few) bullpen spots.
Something’s gotta give.
So now’s your chance to create your own Pirate bullpen. The polling function here is rudimentary (strictly of the “pick one” variety), so you’ll have to list out your seven choices. Feel free to do separate lists for what you’d like to see and what you think the Pirates will do. The possibilities, as best I can tell, are as follows (* is a lefty and the # in parens is the number of options):
Steven Brault* (1)
Nick Burdi (3 - Rule 5 - injured)
Kyle Crick (1)
Michael Feliz (1)
Tyler Glasnow (1)
Daniel Hudson (2 - can reject MiL assignment)
Tyler Jones (3 - MiL contract)
George Kontos (0)
Jack Leathersich* (1)
Damien Magnifico (1 - MiL contract)
Jordan Milbrath (3 - Rule 5)
Joe Musgrove (2)
Dovydas Neverauskas (2)
Felipe Rivero* (haha)
Richard Rodriguez (3 - MiL contract)
Casey Sadler (1 - MiL contract)
Edgar Santana (2)
A.J. Schugel (0)
Bo Schultz (0 - MiL contract - injured)
Josh Smoker* (2)
John Stilson (3 - MiL contract)
Nik Turley* (0 - suspended)
Just to be all-inclusive, the following minor league prospects have no real chance of making the team but will be in spring training:
Dario Agrazal (40-man roster)
Tyler Eppler
Luis Escobar (40-man roster)
Yeudy Garcia
Clay Holmes (40-man roster)
Nick Kingham (40-man roster)
Brett McKinney
Alex McRae
