Pirates cut eight more

MLB: Spring Training-Pittsburgh Pirates at Atlanta Braves Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Pirates cut eight more players from major league camp today. RHP Clay Holmes, LHP Jack Leathersich and OF Austin Meadows were all optioned to Indianapolis. C Christian Kelley, RHP Damien Magnifico, OF Jason Martin, OF Bryan Reynolds and SS Cole Tucker were assigned to minor league camp.

The only noteworthy move here involves Leathersich, who seemingly went into camp with a good chance to make the team. He was terrible in his exhibition outings, though, struggling to throw strikes. Minor league exhibitions start tomorrow, so for the other players more regular playing time will be available.

In other news, Neil Walker has signed with the Yankees. I assume it’s a major league deal. That brings to an end one of the more inexplicable odysseys of this off-season.
