— Altoona exploded for a six-run eighth inning, capped by a three-run HR by Logan Hill (pictured), to take a 6-3 lead over Akron, then hung on for a 6-5 win. J.T. Brubaker had a good start, fanning eight over five innings while giving up four hits and two walks. He was charged with three runs, two of them scoring on a Will Craig error. The Curve had only two hits until the eighth and struck out a dozen times.

— Bradenton’s hitters fanned 13 times without drawing a walk in a 4-1 loss to St. Lucie. Starter Eduardo Vera pitched well, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk in five innings. He fanned five. Lucas Tancas doubled in the only run.

— West Virginia got pummeled, 8-1, by Greenville. Domingo Robles had a rough introduction to full-season ball, allowing seven runs, five of them earned, in three and a third innings. The Oneil Cruz experiment at short didn’t make much progress as Cruz committed errors on his first two chances. The Power had just three hits, struck out 13 times and scored only on two errors in the ninth.
