Cannonballs coming: Young Pirate hitters have a good day

— Austin Meadows broke out of a slump and Jordan Luplow had a good day as Indianapolis (16-15) beat Louisville, 7-1. Meadows went 3-5 with a double, and Luplow went 2-4 with a double and his third home run. Wyatt Mathisen hit a pinch-hit home run, his first AAA longball, and Eric Wood hit his second on the year. On top of all that, J.T. Brubaker threw six shutout innings in his AAA debut. He allowed six hits and a walk, and struck out two. (Minor caveat: Louisville is now 11-19, so it wasn’t the best opposition.)

Jason Martin was 2-4 and Logan Hill 2-3. Jesus Liranzo picked up the save with two scoreless innings. He gave up a hit and a walk, and struck out two. Liranzo has yet to be scored upon this season.

Bligh Madris: 0-4
Arden Pabst: 1-4

— West Virginia (19-13) pounded out 14 hits, nine of them for extra bases, in a 13-2 rout of Hagerstown. (True to form, the Power still struck out 13 times. And another caveat: Hagerstown appears to be another bad team.) A day after going deep twice, Dylan Busby was 3-5 with a double and a grand slam, his fourth home run on the season. Oneil Cruz (pictured) was 4-6 with three doubles. After a bad start, he’s up to 257/346/487. Cal Mitchell was 2-4 with his fourth home run and Kyle Watson 3-5 with his third homer and three RBIs. Starter Domingo Robles gave up two runs on three hits and four walks in six innings, while striking out two.
