Schugel had a rough inning in a game last night, possibly leading to this. The shoulder problem has been an off-again, on-again issue for Schugel at least since late in the 2016 season. He was getting close to a possible recall, although it’s not clear who’d get sent down, as most of the Pirates’ bullpen has been pitching well lately.
In minor league news, the Pirates have moved right-hander Pedro Vasquez to Altoona from extended spring training.

Vasquez had a good year in 2017 at Bradenton, but had been out so far this year due to illness.
