Jim Callis of MLB is reporting that the Pirates have agreed to terms with Travis Swaggerty, their first round pick and tenth overall, a center fielder from the University of South Alabama. Swaggerty hit 319/457/504 in 171 games in his three years at the school, including 13 home runs in 2018.
The reported $4.4 million signing price is $160,200 under slot.
Most college signees will report to the Short Season Class-A West Virginia Black Bears, which begin their season today, but there’s a possibility Swaggery could be assigned to High-A Bradenton.
Pending completion of physical, 1st-rder Travis Swaggerty will sign w/@Pirates for $4.4 million (pick 10 value = $4,560,200). South Alabama OF, best all-around tools among college players in @MLBDraft, speedy CF w/developing power.
