Game Thread: Chad Kuhl goes up against the Cards

MLB: San Diego Padres at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Chad Kuhl (4-3, 3.94) will try to continue his hot pitching in steamy St. Louis. Last night, Jameson Taillon and Edgar Santana shut down the Cardinals on four hits. Meanwhile, Kuhl’s allowed only one run in six innings in each of his last two starts. He’ll be facing Luke Weaver (3-5, 4.63)

Th 24 year old, six-foot-two, 170 pound Weaver is in his third year with St. Louis, having made eight starts in 2016 and ten in 2017. He has a career 4.63 ERA, along with 2.9 walks and 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings, relying on a 93.4 mph four-seam fastball that he uses 57% of the time, along with a change (25%) and curve (12%)

Despite smacking five balls at over 100 mph the last two games, Gregory Polanco will sit in favor of the hot rookie Austin Meadows. Elias Diaz will spell Francisco Cervelli behind the plate and Josh Harrison is apparently recovered from his flu-like symptoms and will return to the lead-off spot.
