Game thread: Nova and righties vs. Corbin and lefties

MLB: Milwaukee Brewers at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Ivan Nova (4-5, 4.42) will try to extend his winning streak to three Friday at 7:05 p.m.. The Diamondbacks will send Patrick Corbin (6-3, 3.48) to the hill following Arizona’s 9-3 win Thursday night.

Nova has gone 11.2 innings of two run ball his last two outings since coming off the DL, striking out 11 and allowing 14 base runners. Corbin has been trending in the opposite direction as of late, allowing at least five earned runs in three of his last four starts.

The Pirates will deploy eight right-handers in the lineup against the southpaw (including Nova), but Corbin has significantly better splits against righties than lefties (.576 OPS allowed against RH, .772 against LH). The Diamondbacks will start six lefty batters (including Corbin). Southpaws are slashing .327/.359/.503 against Nova this season.

Note:

There is no news on when Corey Dickerson will return to the Pirates. Clint Hurdle said he left a voicemail for Dickerson before he met with the media Friday and that several players have reached out, but they haven’t heard anything back yet. Dickerson was placed on the Family Emergency Leave list on Wednesday.
