The GCL and DSL teams don’t play on Sundays. Bradenton’s doubleheader with Florida was rained out. One of the games was supposed to be the resumption of yesterday’s suspended game, in which Bradenton led, 10-0, in the fourth inning. The two teams don’t meet again, so that game will never be resumed and the stats, which included home runs by Hunter Owen and Adrian Valerio, are wiped out.
— Indianapolis (58-48) dropped the first game of a doubleheader to Buffalo, 2-1. Brandon Waddell needed 105 pitches to get through five and two-thirds innings and walked four, but he allowed only two runs, one of which scored after he left. Waddell gave up five hits and struck out four. The Indians’ offense consisted of six singles. Kevin Newman was 1-4, Chris Bostick 1-3 and Kevin Kramer 1-2 and a walk.
Max Moroff: 0-2, BB
Jacob Stallings: 1-3
Dovydas Neverauskas: 1.1 IP, 2 H, BB, K
Indy won the second game, 2-0, allowing just one hit in the process. Damien Magnifico made his first start of the season and went five innings, giving up the hit and two walks, with three strikeouts. Jesus Liranzo finished with two hitless innings, walking one and striking out two. The Indians themselves had only one hit until the seventh, when they got two runs on infield hits by Erich Weiss and Newman. Jason Martin went 0-1 with two walks and Newman was 2-3 with a double and a walk.
Moroff: 0-1
Bostick: 0-4
Kramer: 0-3
— Altoona (56-47) edged Binghamton, 4-3. The Curve had only six hits. Cole Tucker was 1-4, Ke’Bryan Hayes 1-3 with a double and a walk, and Bryan Reynolds 2-4. Will Craig was 0-2, but drove in two runs with sacrifice flies. He now has 84 RBIs. Luis Escobar started and came out after four innings, apparently because he was running up high pitch counts. He gave up one run on four hits and three walks, while striking out two.
— Max Kranick (pictured) had the best start of his career as West Virginia (52-49) blanked the league’s second highest-scoring team, Asheville, 7-0. Kranick faced the minimum over six innings, not allowing a baserunner until he gave up a single in the sixth. He then picked that runner off. Kranick fanned six. Former outfielder Elvis Escobar finished with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Oneil Cruz went 2-5 with his 12th home run and Robbie Glendinning 2-4 with a double and his first home run. Cal Mitchell was 2-4 with a walk and Lolo Sanchez 0-5. Fabricio Macias went 2-4 with two doubles.
— Morgantown’s draftees (19-26) draftees continued to struggle at the plate in a 7-1 loss to Brooklyn. The Black Bears had only five hits, with Luke Mangieri going 2-4. Connor Kaiser went 0-4 and is now batting 202/296/226, with strikeouts in a third of his at-bats. Grant Koch was 0-3 with a walk and is now batting 170/286/277. Travis Swaggerty was 0-4. Mike LoPresti gave up three runs, one earned, over five innings. He allowed four hits and a walk, and struck out two.
— Bristol (17-20) beat Elizabethton, 7-4. Will Kobos started and gave up three runs in three and two-thirds innings. Argenis Romano got the win by giving up one run in four and a third innings of relief. (The game was called due to rain before Elizabethton came to bat in the ninth.) Dean Lockery was 2-4 with his second home run and Conner Uselton 2-3 with a walk. Sherten Apostel went 1-4 with a double and Mason Martin 0-4.
