Cannonballs coming: Mason Martin breaks out of slump with five RBIs

West Virginia was rained out and the GCL Pirates were off. Indianapolis’ game with Lehigh Valley was suspended after an inning with the Indians ahead, 1-0, on a home run by Max Moroff.

— Altoona (66-54) beat Portland, 8-1. Luis Ecobar battled control problems through four innings, allowing just one run and three hits while walking four. Bryan Reynolds went 2-3 with two walks and his sixth home run. Cole Tucker was 1-4 with three strikeouts, while Ke’Bryan Hayes and Will Craig each went 0-3 with a walk.

— Gavin Wallace threw five shutout innings as Bradenton (51-65) got a rare win in a 7-0 victory over Jupiter. Wallace allowed three hits and two walks, and fanned seven. Casey Hughston went 3-4 with a double, a triple and a walk. Raul Siri also went 3-4. Adrian Valerio was 1-5.

— Osvaldo Bido (pictured) threw seven shutout innings as Morgantown (23-36) beat Williamsport, 4-1. Bido gave up three hits, walked none and struck out seven. Connor Loeprich threw two scoreless innings for the save, giving up two hits and striking out three. Mike Gretler went 2-3 with a walk.

— Bristol (27-29) beat Burlington, 14-9. The Pirates had a lot of baserunners: they piled up 13 hits and 14 walks, and also had runners reach on an error and a hit batsman. They had so many baserunners they were able to score 14 runs and still strand 15 runners. Mason Martin went 4-6 with a double, his ninth home run, three runs and five RBIs. Dean Lockery went 1-2, but reached base six times thanks to four walks and a hit batsman. Jonah Davis was 1-4, but walked three times and scored three runs. Starter Denny Roman lasted only an inning and two-thirds, giving up four runs.

— The DSL Pirates1 (30-35) beat the Rangers1, 8-5. The team continued to get good production from their younger players, as Carlos Arroyo (17) went 3-4, Daniel Rivero (17) 2-5 with a double and Jommer Hernandez (17) 2-3 with a walk. Randy Romero (19) was 2-4 with a double and a triple, and Rayvi Rodriguez (20) was 2-3. Juan Pie went 0-4 with a walk. Starter Yoelvis Reyes (18) gave up a run in four innings on three hits and three walks, with four strikeouts.

— The DSL Pirates2 (25-40) lost to the Mariners, 6-5. Yeison Ceballo (17) and Bryan Mateo (19) each went 2-5 with a double. Omar Matos (18) was 2-2 with a double. Eduar Ramirez (17) was 1-3 with two walks. Enrique Santana (20) fanned seven over three and two thirds. He now has 28 strikeouts in 22 innings, but he also has an ERA of 9.41.
