— Altoona (68-55) edged Binghamton, 5-4. James Marvel had his third strong AA start, allowing two runs in six and a third innings. He gave up five hits and three walks, and struck out five. Will Craig homered in five at-bats, a two-run shot that gave him an organization-leading 20 on the season, as well as 96 RBIs. Cole Tucker was 2-5 with a double and Arden Pabst 3-4 with a double. Bryan Reynolds had a tough day, going 0-5 with four strikeouts. Ke’Bryan Hayes sat after falling awkwardly yesterday, but he’s not on the disabled list.
— Max Kranick had a strong start as West Virginia (63-57) hammered Charleston, 9-0. Kranick threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits, walking none and fanning five. Joel Cesar followed with the three-inning save. Travis Swaggerty (pictured) went 2-5 with his first home run in full-season ball. Deon Stafford went 2-4 with a double and his ninth home run. Cal Mitchell was 0-3 with two walks, Rodolfo Castro 0-4, and Lolo Sanchez 1-3 with a walk.
— Morgantown (24-38) wasted some excellent pitching in a 1-0, ten-inning loss to Batavia. Starter Nick Economos fanned eight over six shutout innings, giving up four hits and three walks. Miguel Hernandez and Conner Loeprich each threw two innings without allowing an earned run, but Loeprich let the bogus run score in the tenth. The Black Bears got their bogus runner to third with nobody out in the bottom half, but failed to get the run across. The Bears had only four hits and, doing their best imitation of the parent team, went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
— Brad Case threw five and two-thirds innings in his first start for Bristol (29-30) and the Pirates beat Pulaski, 6-2. Case gave up just one hit and one walk, while striking out four. The Pirates got hits from everybody in the lineup except Mason Martin. Mikell Granberry went 2-4 with two doubles and Eddy Vizcaino, who was giving Jonah Davis a break, was 2-4 with one double.
— The GCL Pirates (24-23) beat the Phillies West, 11-7. Braxton Ashcraft didn’t have a great start, allowing four runs in three and two-thirds innings. He gave up five hits and two walks, and struck out four. He had quick innings in his first two, but struggled in the third and fourth. Jean Eusebio was 2-5 with a double, and Fernando Villegas 2-5 with a double and a triple. Matt Morrow was 2-4 and Francisco Acuna 2-3 with a double. Jack Herman went 1-4 with a walk and Samuel 1-4 with a double.
— The DSL Pirates1 (31-36) beat the Indians/Brewers, 7-5. Juan Pie (17) was 3-5 and Shendrik Apostel (18) 1-3 with a walk, his sixth home run and three RBIs. Randy Romero (19) was 2-2 with two walks. Bryan Torres (17) started and went five innings, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks. He struck out three.
— The DSL Pirates2 (25-42) lost to the Royals2, 4-1. The Pirates had only two hits, both by Fleury Nova (17). Angel Basabe (17) was 0-4 with three strikeouts.
