Games

— Kevin Newman (pictured) and Jacob Stallings hit for the cycle as Indianapolis (63-51) ran away from Lehigh Valley, 12-5. Newman was 5-5 in the game; his hits included two doubles and his fourth home run. He drove in three and is now hitting 306/352/414. Stallings went 4-5. The home run was his second and he also drove in three. Tyler Eppler dominated for six innings, but seemingly ran out of gas in the seventh. He ended up going six and a third, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks, with five strikeouts. Eppler deserved a better line, as Tanner Anderson let three of the runs score. Steven Brault pitched a scoreless ninth, but allowed two hits and a walk, with two strikeouts. Wyatt Mathisen went 3-4 and Eric Woods 2-4 with his eighth home run. Max Moroff was 1-4 and Kevin Kramer 1-5 with a double. Jason Martin continued to struggle, going 0-5. He’s now in a 3-for-39 skid.

— Altoona (60-50) had an unplanned bullpen game but still beat Trenton, 5-1. Starter Scooter Hightower got ejected in the second inning, but Logan Sendelbach threw four and a third scoreless innings in relief, allowing a hit and a walk, and striking out three. Ke’Bryan Hayes and Will Craig each went 3-5. Craig had a double and a triple, and drove in two, giving him 91 RBIs on the year. Cole Tucker was 1-3 with two walks.

— Bradenton (50-57) got blanked by Charlotte, 4-0. Pedro Vasquez, making a rehab start, gave up two runs on four hits and two walks in three and a third innings. He struck out four. The Marauders had just three hits. Jared Oliva was 1-2 and Adrian Valerio 1-4 with three strikeouts.

— West Virginia (56-53) lost to Greensboro, 8-1, in a game that was stopped in the sixth inning due to lightning. Sergio Cubilete gave up eight runs, seven earned, in four and two thirds innings. Deon Stafford went 1-2 with a walk and his seventh home run. Lolo Sanchez was 1-3 and Cal Mitchell 0-2.

— Morgantown (18-33) had another bad day at the plate in a 1-0 loss to Batavia. The Black Bears managed just three singles and didn’t draw a walk. The poor hitting wasted a strong start by Osvaldo Bido, who fanned nine over five innings. He gave up the one run, four hits and a walk. Travis Swaggerty was 0-4, dropping his average to .268.

— Bristol (21-25) lost to Johnson City, 12-5. Roger Santana continued to struggle, giving up five runs, one unearned, on eight hits and a walk in five and two-thirds innings. He did strike out seven. Zac Susi, recently demoted from Morgantown, went 2-3 with a walk. Mason Martin was 1-4 with a walk and his eighth Bristol home run.

— The GCL Pirates (18-21) lost to the Tigers East, 6-2. Brad Case had a good start, giving up one run on five hits and a walk. He fanned seven. Ji-Hwan Bae was 1-5 and Jack Herman 1-4. Kyle Mottice and Steven Kraft were each 2-2 with a double and a walk.

— The DSL Pirates1 (26-30) lost to the Dodgers Guerrero, 4-2. The Pirates had only two hits, both by Juan Pie (17), who was 2-4. Starter Valentin Linarez (18) gave up two unearned runs in five innings on four hits and a walk, with one strikeout.

— The DSL Pirates2 (22-34) got routed by the Mariners, 12-1. Ronaldo Paulino (19) went 2-4 with his fifth home run. Angel Basabe (17) was 1-4 and Eduar Ramirez (17) 1-4 with a double.
