Game Thread: Kingham vs. DeSclafani

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at Atlanta Braves Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

It’s time for the final series of the season. Nick Kingham (5-7, 5.23) will go for the Pirates against Anthony DeSclafani at 6:40 p.m. in Cincinnati.

Kingham’s spot start on Sep. 23 did not go as planned, allowing six runs in 1.1 innings of work. He had been on a roll before then, recording a 2.70 ERA over 10 IP in his previous four major league outings.

DeSclafani was having a serviceable season before September, but he has struggled mightily this month. He has been lit up for a 7.04 ERA in his five starts this month, lasting only 23 total innings.

With one win this series, the Pirates will finish with a winning record for just the fourth time in the last 25 years.

And if you’re just checking in to Bucs Dugout, be sure to check out the new posts from today. Jason Rollison took a look at Trevor Williams’ quirky 2018 season, and I wrote about the trends in the Pirates’ declining attendance.
