The Pirates (66-71) have a quick turnaround from an early-evening game in Atlanta on Sunday, returning to host the Reds beginning with a 1:35 p.m. Labor Day game on Monday. Let’s hope it doesn’t affect their ability to hit or catch the ball as well as they’ve done lately.
The Reds (59-78) took two of three in St. Louis over the weekend, shutting the Cardinals out, 4-0, on Saturday before two 10th-inning home runs lifted them to a 6-4 win Sunday.
Joey Votto (.283/.419/.416, 9 HR) returned from the disabled list Thursday. Eugenio Suarez (.296/.376/.558) cracked his 31st home run of the season on Sunday. Lefty Cody Reed (7.91 K/9, 3.26 BB/9) was given a start Thursday and is in line for another on Tuesday.
