Jameson Taillon (11-9,3.45) will go to mound Wednesday as the Pirates go for a sweep of the Cincinnati Reds. The Red Legs will counter with Homer Bailey (1-13, 6.13).
Taillon- who is the Pirates’ nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award- has been on a roll since the calendar turned to June, recording the ninth lowest ERA in the NL since June 1 (2.84). He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in his last 17 starts, and he is 11-1 when he receives at least three runs of support.
The Reds are 1-18 in Bailey’s starts this season, and he has taken the loss in his last six outings (32.2 IP, 28 runs allowed, .922 opponent OPS). But hey, he is just three strikeouts away from 1,000 career punchouts. It’s not all bad. Just the overwhelming majority of it is bad.
Happy Clemente Day, Bucs Dugout!
