Just a quick note on the contract details for Brandon Maurer. If he’s in the majors, he gets $1.5M and has $1.25M in incentives. He also has an opt-out on March 24 if he’s not on the major league roster.
Right-handed pitcher Brandon Mauer will make $1.5 million if he reaches the big league with the #Pirates that includes $1.25 million in incentives. If he's not in the big-league roster by March 24, he can request his release.— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) January 31, 2019
This probably gives Maurer something of a leg up on a roster spot. It’s certainly not a guarantee, though, as Kevin Siegrist found out a year ago.
