According to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Pirates have found their new General Manager in Ben Cherington.
Cherington had previously been the vice president of baseball operations with the Toronto Blue Jays since 2016. Before that, he was the General Manger of the Boston Red Sox.
The move has not been officially announced as of yet.
Cherington will have many immediate decisions to make as the next GM of the Pirates. Who will stay or go in regards to current front office members? A new manager needs to be hired. Will there be an overhaul in player development? Is it time to rebuild?
Cherington will certainly have his hands full upon being hired. Also, let’s not forget the budgetary restrictions he will face.
