The Pittsburgh Pirates have struck a deal with the Detroit Tigers trading RHP Dario Agrazal for cash considerations.
Let the Ben Cherington era begin!
Last season with the Bucs, Agrazal had a 4.91 ERA (5.90 FIP) over 73.1 innings pitched. He struck out 41 batters while walking 18. The 24-year-old also allowed 15 home runs.
Agrazal was DFA’d by the Pirates last Wednesday to help clear room on the 40-man roster for the likes of Ke’Bryan Hayes, Oneil Cruz, Will Craig, Cody Ponce, and Blake Cederlind. Luis Escobar, Williams Jerez, Montana DuRapau were also DFA’d at the time.
Obviously this isn’t exactly the most impactful trade. Agrazal isn’t all that good. He did his best to eat innings down the stretch for the Pirates as they limped to the finish. With the Tigers, he will presumably have the same role.
