Notables among today’s spring lineup:
- Melky Cabrera will be trotted out, this time at the top of the lineup, for the club to continue to get data points as to whether or not he has enough left in the tank to warrant a 25-man spot.
- The two-through-five in this order of Starling Marte, Francisco Cervelli, Josh Bell and Colin Moran is very close to being representative of a potential typical everyday Pittsburgh Pirates lineup...
- ...Except for possibly Moran. Jung Ho Kang continues to remind the Pirates that he is ready to play in 2019 while enjoying his first “normal” Spring Training since he signed with the club in 2015. For Moran to continue to remain in the mix as the everyday third baseman, he will have to show more of the late 2018 version of himself.
- We’ll get our first look at Jordan Lyles in a starting role while in a Pirates uniform. Despite Hurdle and others’ proclamations, the fifth starting pitcher job is Lyles’ to lose.
