Joe Musgrove and Elias Diaz get some work at Pirate City

While the Pirates took off to Houston, a couple of their players stayed behind in Bradenton. Joe Musgrove threw six innings against, more or less, the AAA team. Musgrove got hit hard much of the time. Cole Tucker had two home runs and a single, while Jason Martin had a long triple and a single in the two at-bats I saw.

Meanwhile, Elias Diaz took a turn in the batting cage.

He lives!

The afternoon’s games involved lower level guys taking on the Blue Jays. A lot of the players who’ll make up the Bradenton and Greensboro rosters weren’t there, so it was an assortment of players who may be on class A rosters and some who’ll probably go to short season ball. Some guys weren’t suited up, like . . .

Can a 6’7” guy really do this?

Travis Swaggerty was hitting, but not running, in an intrasquad scrimmage.

Only a handful of players from the Dominican Summer League are in camp now, with a lot more expected later. A few who were out today:

Shortstop Edgar Barrios
Infielder Jesus Valdez (acquired for David Freese)
Outfielder Angel Basabe
Infielder Tilsaimy Melfor

Finally , , ,

He may be only 5’11” but don’t write off Pablo’s brother Samuel Reyes
