Game Thread: Jordan Lyles Makes Pirates Debut Against Reds

MLB: Spring Training-New York Yankees at Pittsburgh Pirates Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

Jordan Lyles is taking the bump as the Pirates play host to the Reds in the opener of a four game series.

Cincinnati will counter with Tyler Mahle. The Pirates faced him twice last year, lighting him up for 5 ER in 4.2 IP on Apr. 8 and 6 ER in 5.2 IP on July 20.

Lyles is being activated off the 10 day injury list at the same time Corey Dickerson is going on it. Dickerson is suffering from a shoulder strain. AAA outfielder Jason Martin is noticeably missing from Indianapolis’ roster, so it seems likely he will be getting his call to the majors any day.

Kevin Newman will make his first start of the season for the Bucs, playing at short and batting eighth.

First pitch is at 7:05 p.m..
