Bradenton (21-15, 3rd) lost 8-2 at Fort Myers (23-13, 1st). Domingo Robles (3-5, 2.57), a 21 year old lefty, pounded the strike zone, throwing 65 of 90 pitches for strikes (72%) while allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
Bradenton trailed 3-2 going to the seventh, but Shea Murray walked three around a hit to give Fort Myers a 4-2 lead, then Ryan Valdes, who entered the game with a 2.20 ERA in his eleven previous relief appearances, got torched for four more runs on five hits in the eighth.
Bradenton batters went down seventeen times on strikes. Jordan Balazovic, who pitched seven perfect innings in his High-A debut last week, punched out twelve in five innings of work. For the season, he now has 55 K’s in only 32 2⁄3 innings.
Catcher Deon Stafford was two-for-two with two walks, raising his BA to .206, and shortstop Robbie Glendenning, batting cleanup, had two hits but whiffed three times. Travis Swaggerty had one hit and drove in both Bradenton runs.
