Game Thread: Roster Moves, Lyles Gets Crack At Former Club

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals Joe Puetz-USA TODAY Sports

Jordan Lyles will make his first start in his old stomping grounds Friday night, taking on the San Diego Padres at 10:10 p.m..

Lyles (3-1, 2.09) went six innings of one hit ball in his last outing in St. Louis. The Padres will counter with southpaw Joey Lucchesi (3-2, 4.57). Lucchesi has not yet made a quality start in his first full season in the big leagues.

Before the game, the Pirates brought up a pair of relievers. Clay Holmes is back from AAA, taking Trevor Williams’ place as the right-hander was placed on the 10-day IL with a right side strain. The Pirates also selected the contract of reliever Geoff Hartlieb. Richard Rodriguez was optioned to AAA, and Jacob Stallings was outrighted to Indianapolis, removing himself from the roster.
