Game Thread: Bell Could Break Franchise Records

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at Cincinnati Reds David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

Josh Bell will look to conclude his historic month of May on a high note when the Pirates take on the Brewers Friday at 7:05 p.m..

Bell is tied for a pair of Pirate single month records. His 92 total bases in May have matched Ralph Kiner’s mark in June of 1947, and his 24 extra-base hits are only equaled by Paul Waner (June 1927, Aug. 1928).

Per Joe Block, Bell is just two extra-base hits shy of Ty Cobb’s record for the most XBH in the month of May (since 1913).

Bell is 3-13 with a home run in his career against Brewers starter Jhoulys Chacin (3-6, 4.88).

Chris Archer (1-5, 5.75) will try to get back on track after being tagged for 13 earned runs in 13.2 IP this May (8.56 ERA).
