All Hands on Deck: Bradenton epicly blows a lead

Bradenton (35-28) fell 7-6 at Charlotte (33-30)

After pitching a scoreless eighth, reliever Logan Stoelke (7.13 ERA in 24 IP) gave up six of Charlotte’s seven runs in the bottom of the ninth that gave them an epic walk-off win.

Aaron Shortridge (3-2, 3.38) started, turning in seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while fanning eight.

He’d been staked to a 5-0 lead, and then another in the eighth, as the Marauders banged out twelve hits. 1B Dylan Busby (200/300/453) homered for the second straight day, his 12th, and 2B Adrian Valerio (194/239/269) had his second straight three hit game. SS Robbie Glendinning (329/385/572) returned from his short-lived suspension with two hits and two walks, as did 3B Jesse Medrano (219/280/285) with three hits and a walk. CF Travis Swaggerty (227/322/341) was 0-for-3 with two walks.

Stoelke opened the bottom of the ninth by hitting Ronaldo Hernandez, then loaded the bases with one out after a single, pop up and walk. Another single drove in the first run, prompting a mound visit, but Stoelke walked the next batter, forcing in the second run. A wild pitch and a double scored three more, leaving the Marauders with a 6-5 lead and driving Stoelke from the game. Ryan Vales got a K for the second out, but a double tied the game and then Hernandez, who started the inning, singled to end it.

Low-A

Greensboro (41-23) came away with a 5-2 rain shortened win over visiting Hickory (38-23)

Oswaldo Bido (7-4, 3.36) went six strong innings, the only scoring on a two-run homer in the second, as he allowed three hits and three walks while striking out five. The game was called with one out and Hickory batting in the top of the seventh.

The Grasshoppers got a pair in the first on LF Fabricio Macias’ (263/323/429) two-out, two-run single, then two more in the second as the opened the inning with four straight singles.

RF Jack Herman (304/360/696), who’d singled in a run in the second, added a solo homer, his second, in the fourth. 3B Patrick Dorrian (253/343/449) also had two hits.

Dominican Rookie

Pirates-1 (5-3) were a 5-2 winner over Rangers-1 (7-1)

2B Juan Yerez (400/455/800) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and DH Luis Tello (350/391/500) also had a pair of hits.

Pirates-2 (6-2) fell 8-7 in ten innings at Rockies (2-6)

Down 7-2, the Rockies scored five in the bottom of the ninth to tie and another in the tenth to win.

The Pirates had 13 hits, with their 3-4-5 hitters each going 2-for-5.
