West Virginia (2-1) blanked Williamsport (1-2) 2-0 in seven innings

19 year old right-hander Michael Burrows [pictured] allowed just two hits along with three walks in five scoreless innings, fanning five. Burrows was drafted in the 11th round in 2018 out of a Connecticut high school, and proceeded to now allow any earned runs in 14 innings in his first summer as a professional. This year he skipped over Bristol to Morgantown where he’ll be facing a good number of college hitters, and in his debut ran his streak to 19 innings.

Both of the Black Bear runs came on Nick Patten’s first home run of the year, in the third inning.

West Virginia (2-2) got blanked 4-0 in seven innings at Williamsport in the makeup of Sunday’s washout.

The Black Bears could only muster a single hit in the night cap as they went down on strikes eleven times.

22 year old right-hander Winston Nicacio, selected from the Cardinals in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft, gave up two runs on six hits and two walks in four innings.

20 year old Hai-Cheng Gong, one of only three minor league players from mainland China, pitched a scoreless sixth for West Virginia. He played for the GCL Pirates last year.
