Josh Bell Wins NL Player of the Month for May

MLB: Milwaukee Brewers at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

In what should could as a surprise to no one, Josh Bell was awarded the National League player of the month award for May Monday.

It is the first time Bell has received the award and the first time a Pirate has won since Andrew McCutchen took the honor in June of 2017. Bell was named the NL Player of the Week for the week of May 13-19.

Bell lead the majors in home runs (12), RBI (31), hits (46), doubles (12) and wRC+ (217) in May. It was the type of stretch that ranks among the best months of any Pirate hitter ever.

Bell now leads MLB first basemen in a variety of categories this year, including WAR (2.3), RBI (53) and OPS (1.077).
