After getting trounced 10-4 last night, the Pirates will try to regroup for the second of three games in Milwaukee. They’ll need to rise to the occasion as they face Zach Davies and the Brewers.
-Thought the last ten days, the Pirates lead all of Major League Baseball in team batting average (.305) and are second in wRC+ (119).
-The Brewers are the team that bests Pittsburgh in team wRC+ (122) since May 28th and are also on top in ISO (.258).
-The Pirates pitching staff has been the worst in baseball (6.55 ERA, 6.25 FIP) as well as in team pitching WAR with a -1, which is .6 worst from the next team on the list.
-Milwaukee's pitching hasn’t been much better lately, posting a 5.58 team ERA. However, their FIP of 3.57 suggests some big regression coming soon.
-Davies is undefeated and hasn’t given up more than two earned runs except for one start this season. His strikeout to walk rate currently sits around 2-1.
-Bryan Reynolds is the Pirates’ hottest hitter, batting .441 with a 186 wRC+. He’s not doing it with a lot of power (.086 ISO) but he’s getting on base in over half of his plate appearances.
-Christan Yelich (.412) and Yasmani Grandal (.375) have been running the Brewers offense during the last week and a half.
-Jordan Lyles has allowed 13 earned runs through his last 15.2 innings pitched, but also carries a 7/2 K/BB-rate.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 PM EST on ATT Sports Net.
