Chris Archer (3-6, 5.36) will take the mound for the Pirates at 7:05 p.m. Eastern at PNC Park in Pittsburgh for the second game of their four game series. He’ll be opposed by right-hander Dakota Hudson (9-4, 3.57)
Hudson is in his first full year with the Cardinals after tossing 27 1⁄3 innings in relief in 2018. So far this year, despite his above average ERA, Hudson has has a WHIP of 1.51, walking 4.1 and striking out 6.6 batters per nine innings.
His lone relief appearance was against the Pirates on Apr. 3, working just two thirds of an inning. On May 12, he allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks in six innings in a game the Pirates won 10-6.
So far this year Hudson has been crushed by left-handed batters, surrendering a .910 OPS on a 296/392/910 batting line, with 10 home runs and 30 walks in 222 PA. He’s been stingeier against right-handers,who’ve batted 247/312/344 for a .656 OPS.
