It’s Move Up Tuesday!

25 year old LHP Brandon Waddell (4-3, 5.16) was promoted back to Indianapolis after posting a 2.23 ERA in seven starts for Altoona.

24 year old RHP Nick Economos (8-5, 2.17) was promoted from Bradenton to Altoona, his third stop of the year. He started his fifth year in the Pirates’ system at Greensboro where he had a 2.48 ERA in five starts and three relief appearances. Promoted to Bradenton in May, Economos then recorded a 2.01 ERA as he allowed more than one earned run just three times in eleven starts.

21 year old RHP Conner Loeprich (4.30 ERA, 67 K in 58 23 IP) was promoted from Greensboro to Bradenton. He was a 20th Round selection in the 2018 draft.

22 year old RHP Winston Nicacio (2.96 ERA in 24 13 IP) was promoted from West Virginia to Greensboro. He’s in his fifth year with the Pirates.

21 year old RHP Oliver Garcia (2.57 ERA, 20 K in 14 IP) was promoted from Bristol to West Virginia.

Indianapolis placed OF Eric Wood (226/311/428) on the temporarily inactive list and LHP Tyler Lyons (2.97 ERA in 36 13 IP) on the paternity list.

Bradenton Marauders placed RHP Nick Mears (3.16 ERA, 57 K in 37 IP) on the 7-day injured list.

Switch-hitting OF Deion Walker, a 35th Round pick from Hillgrove HS in Marietta, Georgia, was assigned to the GCL Pirates to begin his professional career.

RHP Eddison Polonia (4.26 ERA in 12 23 IP) was transferred from the DSL Pirates-2 to Pirates-1.

and...the DSL Pirates-1 released RHP Miguel Peralta (10.97 ERA, 23 walks in 10 23 IP).

Triple-A

Indianapolis (51-49) recovers for 7-6 win at Syracuse (50-51)

After starter Eduardo Vera was hammered for sixteen runs in his last two starts, it looked like his fortune had turned around as he held Syracuse scoreless over five innings, but staked to a 4-0 lead he served up five of the six runs in the Mets’ sixth inning, including Danny Espinosa’s 15th home run.

2B Cole Tucker’s eighth home run of the year, a solo shot in the seventh, put the Indians a run back at 6-5, then in the ninth SS Erik Gonzalez (235/264/373) doubled in J,B. Shuck and Tucker with the tying and lead runs.

CF Jason Martin (261/306/450) hit a two-run homer, his eighth. Tucker, 3B Ke’Bryan Hayes (253/333/409) and 1B Will Craig (250/328/460) each had two hits.

Double-A

Altoona (52-46) falls 4-3 in 10 innings to visiting Erie

Cody Bolton (6-4, 2.75) had a rough start, allowing three runs in three innings on five hits and a walk as he struck out three. Bolton had a 1.61 ERA in twelve starts for Bradenton, but since being promoted has struggled to a 5.79 ERA in five starts for Altoona, only one being quality.

The bullpen allowed only three hits over the final seven innings while striking out seven, but Erie pushed across the fake runner in the tenth.

C Jason Delay (244/302/410) was 3-for-4 and 2B Mitchell Tolman (259/342/355) 2-for-4. CF Jared Oliva (280/363/424) had his hitting streak snapped with an 0-for-5.

Altoona trails 2-0 in the 3rd inning to visiting Erie in a makeup of a July 6 postponement.

In a game that didn’t start until 10:17 p.m. but scheduled for seven innings, Nick Economos has made his Double-A debut, allowing three runs in five and two thirds innings on four hits and three walks while striking out seven. He served up a two-run homer in the third and an RBI double off the wall in the sixth.

DH Robbie Glendinning (305/364/500) was 2-for-3.

If the uniform doesn’t look familiar, it’s Yinzer night, featuring a Black n’ Gold vest with “Yinzers” emblazoned acrossed the chest.

High-A

Bradenton (53-46) edged 2-1 at Clearwater (52-48)

Ike Schlabach (2.97 ERA in 26 13 IP) made his first start of the year and allowed two runs in four innings on five hits and a walk, but took the loss as the Marauders could muster only three hits and a walk.

1B Mason Martin (257/364/558) accounted for Bradenton’s only run with a solo homer in the fourth, his second with Bradenton and 25th overall. CF Travis Swaggerty (253/339/366) had the two other hits.

Just promoted Conner Loeprich (4-3, 4.04) allowed one run in six innings in his debut, scattering eight hits and a walk while fanning six.

1B Mason Martin (260/365/569) doubled and homered, his second of the double header and 26th of the season, giving him 93 RBI.

SS Oneil Cruz (320/356/508) hit his sixth homer of the year.

Low-A

Asheville at Greensboro was postponed.

Short Season A

West Virginia falls 8-3 to visiting Batavia

2018 2nd Round pick Braxton Ashcraft (6.48 ERA in 33 13 IP) fell to 0-6, getting roughed up for five runs in four and two thirds on five hits, including two homers, and three walks. He struck out six.

SS Ethan Paul (211/362/368) and 3B Jared Triolo (220/295/400) each had a pair of hits.

Advanced Rookie

Bristol at Burlington was postponed.

Dominican Rookie

Pirates-1 (22-22) fall 5-4 in 10 innings to visiting Dodgers Shoemaker (22-22)

19 year old right-hander Valentin Linarez (2.33 ERA in 38 23 IP) tossed a fine game, allowing one run in five innings on just two hits without a walk while striking out seven, but left trailing 1-0.

The Pirates got three runs in the seventh to pull ahead 3-2 but the Dodgers tied it in the ninth and scored a pair in the top of the tenth.

Pirates-2 (36-8) hold on for 5-4 win at Tigers-2 (18-25)

Jorge Ramos (2.97 ERA in 30 13 IP), despite being knocked around for nine hits in five and two thirds, allowed one run each in the third, fourth and fifth. He didn’t walk any and struck out five.

Down 3-2, the Pirates put together three hits and a walk to score a pair of runs to go ahead in the eighth.

SS Dariel Lopez (355/404/524), C Geovanny Planchart (395/452/447) and 2B Bladimir Susana (309/367/309) each had three hits.
