The 2019 Major League All-Star Game, pitting the best players from the National and American Leagues, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Eastern at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
The Pirates’ Josh Bell, who came in a very close second in the run-off vote for the starting NL first baseman, will be the starting Designated Hitter for the NL Squad. Bell has a 302/376/648 batting line, leading the majors with 30 doubles and 84 RBI while tied for fifth with 27 home runs.
Left-handed reliever Felipe Vazquez was not initially named to the team, but was later selected as a replacement for Milwaukee’s Josh Hader who had to bow out due to back discomfort. “The Nightmare” is tied for seventh in the majors with 20 saves, and along with a 2.11 ERA has struck out 60 batters while walking only 10 in 38 1⁄3 innings.
