The Pirates and Nats will face off in round three of their four game set Wednesday night.
Joe Musgrove (8-11, 4.59) will go for the Pirates. He is coming off a strong performance against the Cubs on Aug. 16 where he allowed four base runners and two runs over 7.1 innings. He struck out a season high nine batters.
Washington will start Patrick Corbin (9-5, 3.34). He struck out 11 Buccos over seven innings in his last start against them on Apr. 12, surrendering just five base runners and one run along the way. The Pirates ended up winning that game 6-3, beating the Nationals’ bullpen. Nine of his last eleven outings have been a quality start (2.37 ERA in that stretch).
RHP Chris Archer (right shoulder inflammation) and RHP Clay Holmes (left quad strain) were both placed on the 10 day injured list before the game. Archer was removed after a warm-up pitch before the start of the second inning Tuesday night. Holmes threw a total of 105 pitches over two appearances in three days. RHPs Dario Agrazal and Parker Markel are taking their place on the roster.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m..
