Tonight, the Pittsburgh Pirates start a four game set in Denver to take on the Colorado Rockies.
For the Rockies, right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez gets the start tonight. Before late June of this season, Gonzalez had not seen major league action since 2016. In 35 innings this year, he is 0-5 with a 6.43 ERA. Of the 36 hits he’s given up, eight have been home runs. Gonzalez isn’t exactly sharp with his command either. On the year, he’s allowed 21 walks while striking out 20. This will be his first career appearance against the Pirates.
Trevor Williams will take the bump for the Pirates tonight. In 112.2 innings this season, Williams is 6-6 with a 5.35 ERA. In his last start, he went six scoreless innings against the Cincinnati Reds. It was his first scoreless outing since his first start of of 2019 (also six scoreless against the Reds).
The Over/Under for tonight’s game is 14.5 runs. That may honestly be the highest total I’ve seen for a game this year. If you like runs, this should be a fun one. But then again, baseball is whacky sport, so you never know.
First pitch at 8:40 eastern.
