Game Thread: Pirates try to avoid ninth straight loss

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at Milwaukee Brewers Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Pirates have lost nine straight games. Over that span, they’ve been outscored 83-23. They will try to snap their losing streak against the Milwaukee Brewers today.

This afternoon, Trevor Williams takes the mound for the Pirates (7-7, 5.59). Williams was shelled in his last start against the Chicago Cubs, giving up seven earned runs in 2.1 innings. In the past, Williams has had success with his fastball. That has not been the case this season as opponents are hitting .286/.348/.538 against the pitch. He throws his heater 66.7 percent of the time.

For the Brewers, Brandon Woodruff (11-3, 3.69) gets the start. This is his second start since coming off of the injured list. In his first start, he tossed two scoreless innings against the San Diego Padres, striking out four. Expect a lessened workload again today against the Pirates.

The Pirates are 4-14 against the Brewers this season.
