Who Plays 3B Until Hayes Arrives?

Assuming Hayes is not hurt and hits reasonably well in AAA, he should take over 3B by July. Until then, the Bucs have to fill that position for 60 or 70 games. Let's walk thru the options.

Moran: We have seen the Moran show for 2 years and I am not impressed. Below average fielder (in the bottom 5 of MLB), hits a little above average but with limited power. Not a fan of him playing much (if any) 3B until Hayes arrives. In fact, I'd like to DFA him before the season opens.

Gonzalez: Best defensive 3B not named Hayes that the Bucs have but can't hit much. I don't think his Sept. flurry will continue.

Osuna: Better defensively than Moran, not anywhere as good as Gonzalez. Actually has more power than Moran. As possible option to share some time with another player. Plus he can be the backup at 1B for Bell.

Kramer: Not sure how good his defense is, but hasn't hit at all in the ML. The only reason to play him is to give him a chance and be a LH platoon with Osuna or Gonzalez.

Craig: Again, not sure of his defense and he has not played in the ML as of yet.

I actually don't like any of these options. A creative way to fill 3B might be to play Newman there with Tucker at SS and Frazier at 2B. Pretty strong defensively. Doubt if that will happen.

This will be an interesting competition in ST.
