Game Thread, July 29: Brewers at Pirates

A go-ahead home run by Adam Frazier late in yesterday’s contest allowed the Pirates to bounce back from a frustrating loss on Monday to the Brew Crew, winning yesterday’s bout 8-6.

Joe Musgrove returns to the mound for his second outing of the 2020 season against Brandon Woodruff. Musgrove pitched just 5.2 innings on Opening Day while surrendering five hits and three walks and striking out seven. Tonight’s grudge match also sees Colin Moran retaining his role as the clean up man as he continues his hot start to the season.

The Pirates have mashed up their lineup otherwise in comparison to yesterday’s squad; Erik Gonzalez will be at shortstop over Kevin Newman, while Gregory Polanco returns to his stomping ground after a spell by Cole Tucker in yesterday’s contest.

The Pirates’ offense as of late (if you’d like to call it offense) has been bolstered by surprise contirbutors; Philip Evans retains his spot at third base as he rides a 4-10 mark at the plate to start the season while batting in front of the hard-hitting and hard-swinging likes of Josh Bell and Moran. Hopefully tonight will see Bryan Reynolds begin to awaken at the plate; the sophomore left fielder has kicked off 2020 with an abysmal 2-17 at the dish.
