After it was reported last night that a member of the Cincinnati Reds had tested positive for COVID-19, Major League Baseball announced that the remaining two games of the series between the Reds and the Pirates this weekend would be postponed.
The games were due to be played this evening and tomorrow afternoon.
The Reds player hasn’t been identified publicly per MLB protocol. Four Reds so far have either tested positive (Matt Davidson) or self-quarantined with symptoms but tested negative (Joey Votto, Mike Moustakas and Nick Senzel). Up until this point, the Reds were the only NL Central team not to have been affected by virus-related postponements.
Both teams are off on Monday, so there would be time for a possible make-up doubleheader. However, two more Reds/Pirates series are on the upcoming schedule, and since the Reds (and possibly the Pirates) will be undergoing further testing, it may be decided to make up these games during those series. Neither the Reds nor the Pirates have made public comments about the situation. We’ll keep you advised.
