Game Thread: Pirates vs White Sox, 9/9/20

MLB: Seattle Mariners at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Today is Roberto Clemente Day.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will honor The Great One’s legacy tonight by wearing the number 21. Puerto Rican born players all over the league will be able to wear the number 21 as well.

It is well known that Clemente was not only an all-time great player but an all-time great human being as well. That goes without saying. To see the Pirates and MLB honor him today is always special. Seeing players get the opportunity to wear his number adds a new level of respect that is truly awesome.

In the game tonight, JT Brukaber (1-0, 3.96) will oppose Dane Dunning (0-0, 3.86) of the Chicago White Sox. Both rookie pitchers have a combined 39 innings pitched in their careers. In his last start, Brubaker tossed five solid innings of one-run ball in a win against the Chicago Cubs. In Dunning’s last start, he went 4.2 innings while allowing three earned runs in a no-decision against the Kansas City Royals.
