I saw on MLBTR that the Cubs almost bought Hosmer for prospects last year. I would love to see the Pirates do this or something like it. So what if Hosmer is terrible and costs $18M a year on a $60M payroll team? Say we got Robert Hassell III who then should allow us to trade Reynolds in 2023 for a haul. Padres could send $20M to eat a season of Hosmer's pay and he's likely to opt out after '22 if he's in Pittsburgh :) Hassell immediately becomes our best OF prospect. This would be the most productive longterm way to get the Pirates out of trouble with the players union for not having any payroll, too!
