The Pirates and Twins will meet Sunday afternoon for the final of three games in Minneapolis. Pittsburgh dropped game one to Minnesota Friday night, 2-0; the Pirates bested Michael Pineda in game two, securing a 6-2 win in the Twin Cities. The teams will battle for the division Sunday afternoon.
Trevor Cahill (1-2) turned in a strong performance yesterday, pitching six innings and allowing one run on six hits, earning him his first win of the season.
Michael Perez was the driving force behind the Bucs’ offense at Target Field, going 3-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs. Perez picked up a double and his first home run of the season, falling one link short of the cycle. Kevin Newman also connected for his first home run of the season when he and Perez went back-to-back in the eight and nine spots.
The Pirates will have an off day Monday before challenging the Kansas City Royals to a short, two-game midweek series. After that, a three-game weekend series against the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park will carry us into the month of May.
