The Pirates have lost six straight games and 20 of their last 26. After Wednesday’s embarrassing gaffe of a play and eventual loss to the Cubs, I’d imagine the team was not too mad to be getting the day off yesterday due to rain. Today though, the Buccos get to endure a doubleheader against the Rockies.
JT Brubaker gets the start in game one for the Pirates. In his last start, Brubaker struggled by allowing seven earned runs over 5.1 innings. He also gave up three home runs. It was his worst start of the season. That said, this is now two straight bad starts from Brubaker. In the start before last, he allowed five earned runs over 5.2 innings. Hopefully today against a lesser Colorado lineup, Brubaker will get back on track.
For the Rockies, Jon Gray takes the bump. Overall, Gray has been decent in his 57.2 innings pitched having an ERA of 3.43. Like Brubaker, he too has not been the sharpest in his last two starts. In those starts, he allowed three and four earned runs respectively over 11.2 total innings. Hopefully, the Pirates can continue that trend and get the bats going.
We have baseball all day folks, let’s enjoy it. Go Bucs.
