SB Nation Reacts: Surprises and disappointments so far

Let’s check in on the season’s developments.

MLB: San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates Mark Alberti-USA TODAY Sports

The results from last week’s SB Nation Reacts survey are ready, and this week’s topic is the biggest surprises and disappointments of the season so far. Our first question asked our national voters about the biggest surprise team. Here’s what you had to say:

That’s a clear win for the the San Francisco Giants, who are cruising right now and tied for the league’s best record at 43-25 after winning their last three straight games. The other three teams on the list are also playing good ball, but the Giants took this one by a large margin.

Next we asked our national voters who they thought the biggest disappointment was. This vote came out a little closer.

The Minnesota Twins have been terrible — almost as bad as the Pittsburgh Pirates, in fact — but I don’t think anyone who watched them play this spring thought they’d be world beaters.

I actually voted for the Nationals, who despite sweeping our Buccos this week, are still just 30-35. I figured the Atlanta Braves for mediocre this year, and that’s what they are at 30-35. And despite underperforming, the New York Yankees still have a winning record.

Our last national question asked our voters which current first-place team was most likely to miss the playoffs. Here’s your verdict:

The Giants are in a difficult division with both the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres nipping at their heals, but I went Chicago Cubs. They’re still tied for first with the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals are both right there, with all four teams within three games of one another (followed by our lowly Bucs 14.5 games back). It’s anyone’s division.

And finally, we have our Pirates fan confidence rating, which continues to slip as the Bucs continue to lose.

That’s it for this week. If you want to have a Pirates-related question asked, just email me at dmyuvan@gmail.com and I can have it added to the survey.
