The Pirates are on a bit of a hot streak as they have won four of their last six games. Two of those wins came this past weekend in St. Louis against the Cardinals. Now playing in Pittsburgh, the Pirates will have a chance to further decrease the Cardinals’ playoff odds this weekend. As of right now, the Cardinals sit 3.5 games back of the final wild-card spot.
Tonight’s pitching matchup is a rematch of last Friday’s pitching matchup as Mitch Keller faces off against Miles Mikolas. In that start, Keller was solid as he tossed five shutout innings. It was arguably his best outing of the season. The Pirates won that game 4-0. Mikolas was effective as well as he tossed five innings in which he allowed just two runs. Both were unearned.
The Pirates’ lineup tonight has a bit of a Sunday afternoon feel. Wilmer Difo is starting at third base and hitting fifth. Michael Perez is getting the start at catcher. On the plus side, Michael Chavis is getting another start at second base. In his short time in Pittsburgh, Chavis is 3-12 with a home run. Hopefully, we see his power continue to play as the season comes to a close.
The first pitch tonight is at 7:05 pm. Go Bucs!
