In a season such as it’s been for the Pirates, dashing the postseason hopes of a division rival can be a cool and enjoyable activity. While I was putting this together, I went over to the Reds’ SB Nation site and was greeted with this headline about last night’s 6-2 Bucs victory:

Reds leave entire city of Cincinnati on base, fall 6-2 to Pirates

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It’s not lost on me that the Pirates had this happen last year as well. When you’ve got nothing to lose except more games, the pressure comes off and you start having fun—and winning. The bats have perked up (a bit), and Mitch Keller looked better than he has been of late. Watching the Pirates this year has been frustrating, but you can’t say that it’s been boring. Also, welcome, Taylor Davis. Try not to suck.

In the meantime, happy fall, yinz! Time to goof off with some Wednesday afternoon baseball. The game thread is open, my playgrounds will be here and on Twitter, and, as always, LET’S GO BUCS!!
