Cubs silence Pirates 9-0

They now have 100 losses on the season.

Tonight was not Miguel Yajure’s greatest night. On the very first pitch of the game, he was taken deep by Rafael Ortega. In the second inning, he was tagged for six more runs. In total, Yajure allowed seven earned on seven hits. He walked two and struck out one. Simply put, his fastball was mashed. All of his pitches were. Sadly for Yajure, his season ERA will end at 8.40. The sample size was minuscule, but nobody ever wants to see their season ERA end at such a high mark. Offensively, the Cubs quite the night spraying 13 hits, four of which were of the extra-base variety.

After Yajure’s rough night, Tanner Anderson appeared in his first major league game since 2019. He was pretty decent tossing five innings of two-run ball. Anderson gave up five hits and struck out one. After his outing was finished, both Enyel De Los Santos and Shelby Miller tossed a scoreless inning.

Offensively, the Pirates were non-existent as they tallied just six hits. No Pirate had a multiple-hit game. None of the hits were of the extra-base variety. Bryan Reynolds was 1-3 though. On the season, he is hitting .298/.387/.515. After such a terrible game, I thought it would be nice to add at least one positive nugget.

Starting tomorrow, the Pirates will begin their final series of the season against the Reds. Tomorrow night, Wil Crowe will make his final start of the season. Pitching for the Reds will be Luis Castillo. The first pitch is at 6:35 p.m. ET.
